Bush to Speak in Northwest Arkansas
Among many other places he is stumping for candidates, of course, but Seth Simmons and I, along with my fiancée, plan on going to see the President. Hopefully more on that later.
Well, as expected, Bush mainly hit on the Republican talking points, which are important nonetheless: tax cuts, staying true in Iraq, education, voting Republican because Democrats are out of sync with American values and want to raise taxes, etc. My favorite quote from Bush was regarding Democrats who want to pull out of Iraq: "I'm not saying these folks are unpatriotic; I'm just saying they're wrong." Bush, in all his common-man charisma, whipped the crowd into cheers on numerous occasions as he stumped for Arkansas gubernatorial candidate Asa Hutchinson and for the re-election of congressman John Boozman. His main line seemed to be, when Democrats quibble about Republican tactics, ask them, "What's your plan?" According to Bush, they have none. Criticism alone is not enough to run on.
Nothing unusual, but still very exciting to see the President speak - it was my second time, the first being in 1999 or 2000 when he was still trying to get the Republican selection. All in all, a good evening.
